COPPA for Mobile Apps

COPPA applies when your app or site is directed to children under 13 or you have actual knowledge that you collect personal information from children.

You need a clear privacy policy describing practices, parental rights, and how you obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting most data from kids.

Store and platform expectations

  • Apple and Google ask about age rating and whether the app is directed at children — align answers with your policy.
  • Limit behavioral advertising and tracking for child-directed experiences.
  • Provide a support contact for parents in the policy and app listing.

Hosted policy URL

App stores require a privacy policy URL even for kids apps. Host it at a stable link you can update when COPPA practices or SDKs change.
