How to add a privacy policy page to a Wix site
By Paul Cranmer, Founder · Last verified October 2026 · Wix Editor · Pages & Menu, footer, Privacy & Cookies
Wix does not add a privacy policy for you. Its help says to create a dedicated page, link it from the footer so it appears on every page, and link it from the cookie banner. This page walks that path and tells you what Wix says the policy must cover.
Who this is for
- Wix site owners who need a privacy policy URL for lead ads, a store or an app listing
- Sites adding the Usercentrics cookie banner that must link a policy
- Anyone whose footer has no privacy link yet
Not for
- Wix apps sold in the Wix App Market (a different listing)
- Sites built outside Wix
What the platform requires
- Wix Help Center: a privacy policy fulfills a legal requirement to protect a visitor's privacy; it must explain all the ways you collect, use, disclose and manage visitor data, and Wix recommends that you seek legal advice.
- Wix lists what the policy should address: the personal information collected and how, why it is collected, how it is stored and shared, how visitors are contacted, cookies and tracking tools, how visitors withdraw consent, how the policy is updated and how to reach you.
- To add it: open Pages & Menu → + Add Page → Blank Page, name it Privacy Policy, add your text; you may hide the page from the site menu and search engines if required.
- Add a text element to the footer, label it with the policy title, select it → Edit Text → Link icon → Page → choose the policy page → Done. Any text added to your footer shows on all of your site's pages.
- Under GDPR, Wix says you must ask for consent before placing non-essential cookies, and to add a link to your privacy policy to your cookie banner or site footer; the Usercentrics banner's Text labels section takes the policy link.
Get a live URL first
If you want the policy hosted outside Wix, create a hosted privacy policy URL here (websites are on the hosted plan) and link it from the footer text instead of a Wix page. Either way, the platform asking you needs one public URL that loads without a login.
Get a hosted privacy policy URLStep-by-step: paste your privacy policy URL
- Create the page. In the Wix Editor open Pages & Menu, click + Add Page, choose Blank Page and name it Privacy Policy. Paste your policy text into a text element. Optionally hide the page from the menu.
- Put the link in the footer. Click Add → Text, drag the text element into the footer, type Privacy Policy, select it, click Edit Text, highlight the title, click the Link icon, choose Page, pick the policy page, click Done. The footer shows on every page.
- Link it from the cookie banner. Open Privacy & Cookies in your dashboard, add the Usercentrics cookie consent banner, open its settings, and in Text labels add the privacy policy link. Switch on Show banner.
- Copy the page URL. Publish, open the policy page in a private window and copy the address. Confirm it loads without a login and reads as a privacy policy, not a placeholder.
- Use that URL where you are asked. Paste it into Meta, Google Ads or TikTok lead forms, store listings or app dashboards. Keep the page at the same address; edit the text rather than recreating the page.
Field labels to look for
- Pages & Menu → + Add Page
- Where the dedicated policy page is created; it can be hidden from the menu.
- Footer text → Edit Text → Link → Page
- How the footer link is attached; footer content repeats on all pages.
- Privacy & Cookies → cookie consent banner → Text labels
- Where the policy link goes in the Usercentrics banner.
Common reasons the form fails
- Pasting a policy into a lightbox or pop-up that search engines and reviewers cannot open
- A footer link that points to the home page instead of the policy page
- Publishing the banner without a policy link in its text labels
- Changing the page URL after it was used in an ad form
What Wix says about the text
Wix's help says to have the policy reviewed by a legal expert so it complies with local laws such as GDPR or CCPA, and that its article is general information, not legal advice.
FAQ
Does Wix generate a privacy policy?
Wix's help describes what the policy should cover and recommends legal advice; it does not write it for you. Create a page and paste your text, or link a hosted policy.
Where should the privacy policy link go on a Wix site?
In the footer, so it shows on every page, and in the cookie banner's text labels. Wix's help says both.
Can I hide the policy page from the menu?
Yes. Wix lets you hide the page from the site menu and search engines; the footer link still reaches it.
Which cookie banner does Wix use now?
The Usercentrics cookie consent banner, added from Privacy & Cookies in the dashboard; its Text labels take the policy link.
