How to add a Data Deletion Instructions URL for Facebook Login
By Paul Cranmer, Founder · Last verified October 2026 · Meta App Dashboard · Settings · Basic
Meta requires every app that uses Facebook Login to tell people how to delete the data the app collected. You can either build a deletion callback endpoint or, far simpler, point Meta at a public Data Deletion Instructions URL. This page shows where that field lives, what the page must say, and how to host one free.
Who this is for
- Developers whose app uses Facebook Login
- Teams that saw "Data deletion" flagged in App Dashboard or app review
- Builders who want an instructions URL instead of writing a deletion callback
Not for
- Apps that do not use Facebook Login or Meta platform products
- Teams that must programmatically delete data via a signed callback (that is a separate server endpoint, not a URL)
What the platform requires
- A Meta app with Facebook Login configured (developers.facebook.com/apps).
- A public, HTTPS page that explains how a user asks you to delete their data and how long it takes.
- Admin or developer access to the app's Settings in App Dashboard.
Get a live URL first
Delete Account URL is on the free path. Answer a few questions, get a live HTTPS data-deletion page, and paste that link into the Data Deletion Instructions URL field. You can update the page later without changing the URL.

- Create your data-deletion page. Generate a public page that names your app, explains how someone requests deletion (for example by email or an in-app control), and states the timeline. The free Facebook Data Deletion Instructions URL path on this site produces exactly this.
- Open your app in the Meta App Dashboard. Go to developers.facebook.com/apps and select the app that uses Facebook Login.
- Go to Settings → Basic. In the left navigation choose App settings → Basic. Scroll to the User data deletion section.
- Choose Data Deletion Instructions URL. Switch the control from "Data deletion request callback URL" to "Data Deletion Instructions URL" and paste your hosted https:// page link.
- Save changes. Click Save changes at the bottom of the page. Meta validates that the URL is reachable.
- Verify like a reviewer. Open the URL in a private browser. Confirm it loads without login over HTTPS, names your app, and clearly tells a user how to request data deletion.
Field labels to look for
- User data deletion
- Section under App settings → Basic. Offers either a callback URL (a server endpoint Meta calls) or a Data Deletion Instructions URL (a public page). The URL option needs no backend.
- Callback vs instructions URL
- The callback is a signed POST endpoint you build. The instructions URL is just a public page. Most apps only need the instructions URL.
Common reasons the form fails
- Pasting a callback endpoint into the instructions URL field (or vice versa)
- A page behind login, geo-blocked, or served over plain HTTP
- A page that never explains how to actually request deletion
- A PDF or editable doc instead of a public web page
Meta vs app stores
This is Meta's Data Deletion Instructions URL for Facebook Login apps. The App Store and Google Play account-deletion fields are separate; see the delete-account how-tos for those. One hosted deletion page can serve all of them.
FAQ
Do I need a deletion callback or just a URL?
If you only need to tell users how to request deletion, the Data Deletion Instructions URL is enough and needs no backend. A callback is a signed server endpoint Meta calls to trigger deletion automatically; build that only if you want programmatic deletion.
Can one page cover Meta, the App Store, and Google Play?
Yes. A single public data-deletion page can be pasted into Meta's instructions URL field and referenced for App Store and Google Play account-deletion requirements.
Is this free?
Yes. The hosted data-deletion page is on the free Delete Account URL path.
